I helped out Miss Mabunay, my math teacher with the Math Standards and Benchmarks, which were the department’s plans for the students’ learning outcomes for the session year 2013-2014. For this, I was to encode the excel file of the same into a properly formatted word document. She e-mailed me the excel file, which included all the information, as well as a sample for the formatting (as it was to follow a certain specific type of formatting). I got the information from the excel file and then organized it accordingly, matching the required format. In doing so, I learned how to organize information properly in a neat and orderly fashion. Moreover, I am glad that I was able to help out my teacher with this 🙂

Tree of Giving

When: November 30, 2013
Where: Cebu International School
Number of Hours: 4

The Tree of Giving program is held annually at our school, each year in the month of November, wherein kids from the Inayawan Dump Site visit our school, and play games & have lunch with the CIS students. At the culminating, we then give them gifts, which are collected, starting weeks before the actual event in forms of donations from parents, students, staff, etc.

This year, I decided to volunteer for this event, as I thought it was a very nice endeavor on the part of our school, as it let the poor and unfortunate experience the festive spirit of Christmas, as they played games, had fun and received gifts. It might be something very usual for many people, but for those kids, having this opportunity to have fun and enjoy is once in a lifetime experience.

The event started out by welcoming the kids to our school, followed by the formation of groups of about 30 kids (there were around 120 kids who visited the school) who would go around different stations in the school to play different games, such as soccer, parlor games, etc. I was responsible for the station for soccer, along with my fellow schoolmates – Gabby, Liz, William and Pauline. We played with the kids, which was a lot of fun. Seeing the smiles on their faces was something truly fulfilling 🙂 Later, we took them to have lunch, and at the end of the event, they sang a gratitude song for us. I found this extremely sweet of them, and I was, at the same time, glad that I was able to be a part of this fun-filled and fulfilling experience. Before leaving, the happiness, the laughter and the smiles they had on receiving their gifts made me feel even better about being a part of this great endeavor!Â
